EXPERTS IN CROP PRODUCTION SINCE 1922

Committed to agricultural excellence.

In 1922 Sofus Larsen sold his farm in Cowra, Australia and purchased the Northwood Homestead with 836 acres in Swannanoa, New Zealand. Since then, the Larsen family has been crop farming on the Canterbury Plains, first growing wheat and then expanding into ryegrass and clover crops.

Development of irrigation in the early 1970’s allowed the 2nd generation, Sofus’ son Oslo, to intensify the cropping to include process crops. The next few decades saw the 3rd generation, Oslo’s sons Tim, John and Scott, to increase irrigation and intensification to include more specialist crops such as vegetable seeds.

In 2001 John & his wife Louise founded Scottville Farm.  Today they are joined by their sons Rick and Jim, the fourth generation farmers.

On the Canterbury Plains, irrigation is a necessity for consistent and reliable results. Annually over 400ha’s of our seed crops are grown under rotation, with 90% under irrigation.  This is why Scottville excels at growing high quality specialist seed crops with a very reliable outcome.  Grazing to finish and fatten thousands of lambs each winter utilizes surplus feed. With the 4th generation embracing modern technology, further advancements with nutrient and water budgeting assist in maintaining environmental management of our main resource – the land.

While experience and perseverance has played a huge role in Scottville Farms, the ability to adapt to changes in the climate and circumstances in the world market has allowed us to continually grow and expand. Investments in technology advancements, dedicated staff, excellent farm management practices, and our belief in a better future, is what makes Scottville Farm a key player in the cropping industry today.
